As I was gearing up beside the road a guy stopped and asked if they had stocked it. I responded with a “not likely but there might be one or two left”. We chatted for a while before I got on down the path. If there wasn’t a stocked trout maybe there would be a smallmouth bass.
and got fishing…

but there were no fish. The afternoon felt like a lot of the trips that I took to the creek as a kid.. getting skunked without a care in the world, just glad to be outside next to moving water. I took notice of the surroundings. The backyards where I partied in High School, the roads I drove at 16, and the water that will always be my local haunt. If only the creek was blessed with big wild trout…

BC and I planned a day to fish Spring Creek with his girlfriend. I planned to stay a few extra days and fish solo. It was the usual double nymph rigs under indicator fishing until lunch (Indian Chili) when the BWO’s came off. We all caught fish, some more than others. The hatch was strong and fish were keying in on them.
As the day ended I was left by myself. The plan was another two days on Spring before heading back to work. Day two was sunny and did not include a great BWO hatch. It did include a number of fish on nymphs, bad lunch, and beers.

I have a feeling that this jam will not last. It’s pretty bad. Her whiny voice is difficult to understand the lyric and I think its hipster. But it caught my attention on the radio yesterday and is stuck in my head. From the lyrics I could understand, it played to my emotions.

They say, “do what you love and you’ll never ‘work’ a day in your life.”
Well, I’m not there yet, but I understand the saying. It’s great to get support on things you believe in, and I’ve been very fortunate to have various support throughout my life in sports, school, whatever…
My passion for Fly Fishing has become publicized through this blog and Facebook as of late, and my best bud from back-in-the-day has been helping me out with the design and general site management (thanks bro!) He showed it to his family and friends, trying to generate a little traffic, and well, I ended up getting a pretty cool surprise…
My buddy’s mom has always been cool, but after he told her about my goals and aspirations regarding the blog/site and with Fly Fishing in general, she decided to put together and send me a small care package (just in time for my birthday last week!): a nice collection of reading materials.
I’m thinking these are going to be perrrfect for some lazy reading by fire-light, while camping out on any number of the various overnight fishing jaunts I’ve been taking lately. (Even better for sitting on the “thinking pot” too! HA!)
I called her up, thanked her, and she responded with very kind and motivating words – making me realize that people do support me. It’s this support and effort of others that keeps me doing what I love: fly fishing.
Maybe one day I’ll live the dream….
Thx LRB
